What I read on my summer vacation.
I’m not a massive Stephen King fan, particularly not the epicly long books he is most known for. His short stories are what I like the most. Joyland is a short novel, one of his more efficient and straight to the point. It has some of King’s more earnest tendencies in it, even feeling like Ray Bradbury at times. Its the type of highbrow pulp that Hard Case Crime is great at. Plus I’m a sucker for anything set in an amusement park.
The American Eagle has the most comfortable cabin top to lie upon while reading - something about the wood and varnish, all heated up in the sun. It’s just about the best place I know of to read a good book.
